Eastside Wellness Connections opened in 2003 to provide serenity, health and well-being through the following services:
YOGA- Yoga classes are highly varied and focused on different aspects of the yogic tradition. There is a strong emphasis on physical engagement, understanding of correct anatomical movement, and various relaxation techniques. Yoga is a set sequence of poses, held for a specific length of time while practicing deep breathing techniques (ujjayi breathe). Expect to build heat, move fluidly from pose to pose and create a moving meditation on the mat.
PILATES - "I did Pilates every day this summer. I move differently. It really has changed my life." Oprah (9/27/04 PEOPLE). Developed from the techniques of Joseph Pilates, Pilates concentrates on core conditioning by working through the body's abdomen and spine to increase strength, endurance and flexibility. Unlike many types of resistance training, Pilates doesn't build bulky muscles. Instead, it lengthens and strengthens muscles, and focuses on developing a strong torso. Professional dancers have used Pilates for decades. Top athletes use it for strength, flexibility and injury prevention. Hollywood celebrities and supermodels use it to maintain beautiful physiques. Joseph Pilates' promise is, "You'll feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20, and have a new body in 30."
PILATES REFORMER - Pilates Reformer is strength training performed on a Stretch Ro ck Maple Studio Reformer. With its sophisticated system of springs, straps and pulleys, more than 100 resistance exercises can be performed on this surprisingly versatile piece of equipment. The Reformer helps you establish core stability and postural alignment while working your limbs in a range of motion. The adjustable springs allow for progressive resistance, which helps to lengthen and strengthen the muscles rather than build bulk. It allows for an effective, no-impact stretching and toning workout that is friendly to the joints. Pilates Reformer is so unique that it cannot be simulated by any other piece of equipment in the gym. It is different from anything you have ever tried before and can completely change the shape of your body because you are working every piece of each muscle group while maintaining core control.
SPINNING - Spinning is an aerobic exercise that takes place on a specially designed stationary bike. With motivating music, an instructor leads you through a visualization of an outdoor cycling workout. The terrain is determined by turning the knob to adjust a 40 pound flywheel. This keeps the workout within the individual rider's own fitness level. Spinning beats nearly every other cardio program ever created! If you are looking to burn calories, nothing compares to a Spinning workout. Think about this: a typical Spinning class will get you burning as much as 600 calories in just 40 minutes. If you take regular Spinning classes or are an avid cyclist, Pilates and/or Yoga can help balance your training and your muscle tone.
For the best results, add two or more Pilates or Yoga sessions to your weekly fitness routine. The combination of the three will also teach you more effective lateral breathing while cycling. This can make your workout more effective with full use of oxygenated blood, with the bonus of creating a stronger core.
